Soften, Connect, Bloom

Ceremony Update: This Month We Sit With Kanna
Donation is $550

Beloved community,

This month, we gather with Kanna — a sacred plant teacher indigenous to South Africa, known for her gentle yet profound ability to open the heart, quiet the mind, and invite deep relational connection.

Kanna: Ancestral Roots

Kanna (Sceletium tortuosum) has been revered by the Khoisan peoples of Southern Africa for thousands of years. Traditionally chewed, brewed, or inhaled as snuff, it was used in ceremony for easing grief, calming anxiety, enhancing empathy, and strengthening communal bonds. Its wisdom has always been tied to the cycles of community, softening the individual so that the collective could come into greater harmony.

The Khoisan saw Kanna as a sacred ally, a teacher of resilience and joy in the midst of hardship. It was honored not only as a medicine, but as a bridge to emotional balance and spiritual grounding.

The Medicine of the Grandmother

Where Wachuma is often called Grandfather, Kanna carries a distinctly feminine spirit — a Grandmother presence that is soft, nurturing, and heart-tending. She teaches through gentleness, reminding us to slow down, feel more deeply, and rediscover the beauty of connection.

Rather than pulling us outward into visions, Kanna draws us inward, into the truth of our own hearts and the bonds we share with those around us. Her medicine is subtle yet powerful: dissolving armor, restoring tenderness, and inviting us back to belonging.

What to Expect in Ceremony

Biologically, Kanna works as a natural SSRI and empathogen, balancing serotonin pathways in the brain. The result is often a warm, embodied state of ease and emotional openness. Many participants describe:

• A deep softening of mental chatter and anxiety.

• Heightened capacity for empathy, intimacy, and authentic sharing.

• Emotional release — tears, laughter, or waves of tenderness.

• A gentle uplift in mood and perspective.

The journey is usually shorter and more subtle than other plant teachers, making it deeply accessible while still transformative.

Psychological & Spiritual Benefits

Kanna ceremonies may support:

• Easing depression, anxiety, and grief.

• Releasing emotional constriction and old protective layers.

• Deepening presence in the body and relational connection.

• Restoring joy, trust, and openness to life.
